The Digital Leaders Programme has announced the shortlisted nominees for their Digital Leaders 100 (DL100) List for 2021 and our Chief Executive, Patrick Melia, has been shortlisted to the top 10 digital leaders in the country.
This exciting announcement follows last year’s success, which saw Sunderland crowned the UK’s Smartest City. Firmly in the top ten digital leaders across the UK, Patrick has the opportunity to continue putting Sunderland on the map and maybe even claim the coveted number one spot!
Patrick’s core ethos of leaving no-one and nowhere behind has once again been recognised as he, alongside valued partners, is leading Sunderland to a digitally enhanced future, shaping a place where businesses and people can compete and succeed.
Patrick said: “The past year has seen us take huge strides towards some ambitious goals and becoming Smart City of the Year UK for 2020 positioned Sunderland firmly as a key player on a national scale.
“To receive acknowledgement of our collective efforts as a council-led team working in partnership with numerous valued experts, and my own leadership here in the City, is indeed a humbling and extremely proud moment, deeply deserved by the whole team.”
These award nominations recognise our collaborative achievements. Through the use of data and technology, we continue to augment our digital infrastructure; and through strong and collaborative digital leadership, we are generating sustainable economic development, creating efficiencies and enhancing quality of life for people living and working right here in Sunderland.
