Morson Projects has moved to Washington Business Centre, Sunderland from Jarrow after ten years in the North East because it has outgrown its former base.

The Sunderland-based office focuses on power engineering solutions for the UK Energy networks. Clients include National Grid, Scottish Power, Northern Power Grid, Siemens and General Electric.

Morson Projects is a UK-wide company providing multi-disciplined engineering, project management and design services to clients in the power, process, nuclear, general engineering, and aerospace industries. Its services range from design through to complete ‘turn-key’ project management services.

Jed Bell is the senior design engineer at Morson Projects in Sunderland together with a team of engineers and CAD operators. They are involved in projects specialising in the design of substation solutions with system voltages ranging from 11kV to 400kV.
The Sunderland Office focus solely on electrical design. Other offices in Leeds and Manchester incorporate both design and manufacture of control and protection equipment for electrical substations.

The major energy networks are implementing microprocessor-based control systems to replace outdated and bulky equipment. These are much more efficient and reliable, therefore many power engineering companies are replacing equipment for smaller, smarter and more robust solutions. Morson Projects works with the companies to ensure the new designs are reliable and best suited for the company’s needs.

Sunderland City Council’s business investment team worked with Morson Projects to advise it on its move to Washington Business Centre.

Cllr Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “Sunderland is growing its highly skilled workforce with companies like Morson Projects choosing to locate here. Innovative companies are key to the city’s growth. Our aim is to build a knowledge economy eco-system, in which businesses can find innovative solutions and benefit from cross fertilising opportunities across all sectors.

“Morson Projects is serving a blue-chip UK wide customer base from Washington Business Centre. That’s great news for the company and the city.”

Washington Business Centre, purpose built for Sunderland City Council with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), is located at the entrance to Turbine Business Park with easy access to the A19 and A1231. The 5,200sqm two-storey building has 24 offices, seven hybrid units and 13 workshops, as well as meeting rooms and free on-site parking.
