We’ve recently launched a brand-new website to better engage residents, businesses and collaborative organisations in our smart city journey.
As well as showcasing our smart city successes, we wanted to evolve our online space to create somewhere to highlight urban challenges and most importantly, present opportunities for individuals and businesses to get involved and grow alongside our smart city.
We’ve pulled together this blog which showcases what’s new on our improved smart city website.

Creating our new look website in partnership with Boldyn Networks has allowed us to bring our joint ambitions to life and begin to share the next chapter in our smart city journey.
Developing the UK’s smartest city has seen us rollout technology driven initiatives to advance opportunities for our residents, businesses and visitors. Our new website provides a space to share the impact of our smart city’s digital progress and present the real, measurable differences being made across Sunderland.
Our new website layout allows you to quickly access a wealth of information. With just a few clicks, you can view our featured projects, read articles packed with insights, or explore city resources designed to fuel the progress of individuals, communities and businesses large and small.
The new site aims to provide a clean, bight and exciting space to inform and inspire residents, businesses and visitors. Draw inspiration from our success stories, learn about upcoming trials and initiatives designed to make a difference to the residents of our evolving smart city.
Our new ‘Innovation Challenges’ section provides a live record of where we are with smart city projects. This means that at any point, you can visit the site and see completed projects as well as what’s happening now and next – this snapshot of each project’s status aims to make it as easy as possible for individuals and businesses to get involved in relevant opportunities.
The new ‘City Resources’ area aims to empower site visitors via an extensive resource library. Here you’ll find fact sheets and other resources to define and expand understanding of our city’s smart technologies and initiatives. We’ll be continually uploading useful assets and resources to embed learning and fuel progress for all.
We want sunderlandoursmartcity.com to be your go-to place to explore innovation and feel inspired by progress.
We believe in the power of digital transformation and technology to create opportunities for individuals, families, and communities to thrive. Our goal is to equip people with the tools to understand, track, and harness the data we are gathering. We’re dedicated to involving everyone, and that’s why we’re excited to introduce our forthcoming ‘Open Data’ section.
On the sunderlandoursmartcity.com website, you’ll soon be able to access insights from our IoT projects, covering everything from air quality and rainfall data, to traffic patterns and pedestrian flow. By making this data readily accessible, we encourage transparency and promote collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
Our new ‘Open Data’ section already facilitates access to the Sunderland Data Observatory and is currently under development to launch soon on the website to enable site visitors to track live data across the city.
